Description
The goddess Artemis, for whom this dagger is named, stands among the most revered deities of ancient Greek mythology. Known as the goddess of the hunt, she is equally the embodiment of untamed nature, wild animals, and the moon—a guardian of women, children, and the natural world.
That duality of strength and grace is echoed throughout this piece. The twisted Damascus blade, paired with the organic tones of the handle, evokes a raw, untamed presence, while the refined proportions and subtle contours lend a quiet elegance. Inlaid gold lip mother-of-pearl on both sides recalls moonlight breaking through clouds—an understated but luminous detail that ties the piece to its namesake.
The blade is hand-forged from a twisted Damascus billet composed of 1084 and 15n20 high carbon steels, layered to create a dynamic and flowing pattern. It has been carefully polished, etched, and coffee-darkened to enhance contrast and reveal the complexity of the steel. A flat grind with a defined central ridge runs from ricasso to tip, giving the blade both visual structure and functional precision.
The handle is sculpted from an exhibition-grade piece of stabilized black and white ebony, selected for its striking natural contrast. Heirloom-level fit and finish are carried throughout, with seamless transitions between components that reflect a high degree of craftsmanship. A steel spacer, inlaid with gold lip mother-of-pearl on both sides, adds depth and continuity to the design. Six domed nickel silver pins provide both tactile presence and visual rhythm.
The guard and fittings are hand-shaped from carbon steel, brushed and fire-blackened to achieve a dark, textured finish that complements the overall aesthetic. Subtle decorative texturing along the guard lugs adds another layer of visual interest without overpowering the piece.
The Artemis dagger is accompanied by a custom magnetic display stand, designed to present the piece with balance and presence, as well as a felt-lined, burnt oak storage box for protection and display.
Created as a singular work, this dagger is both an object of function and a study in contrast—wild yet refined, powerful yet restrained—capturing the enduring spirit of Artemis in form and steel.
