I had wanted to make a knife like this for a few years now and I’m happy that I made myself finally do it.
Many times I find myself taking the faster route and never going all in on a project because of time and financial constraints. That was almost the fate of this knife. I had contemplated just putting it together quickly with a simple contoured handle and sending it on its way, but ultimately that’s not the direction I want my knife making career to go. So I followed through with the artistic vision I had for it and I don’t regret it at all. There’s a lot more philosophical things I could ramble about with regards to this but I’ll spare all of you for another post. Onto the knife.
~The blade was forged from w2 high carbon steel and features a highly finished surface with an active hamon. It also features a fuller on both sides.
~The handle is made from a stunning piece of amboyna burl that I got from @greenberg_woods and features a fluted design, with a fire blackened steel bolster and custom made pommel nut. There are 8 hand carved spiral flutes running the length of the handle.
The blade length of this knife is 9”.
