Description
Available for purchase is this hand-made petty chefs knife. The blade was forged from W2 high carbon tool steel and features a differentially heat treated blade. This particular blade was heat treated in the hadaka yaki fashion which means that the hamon was produced without the use of a clay insulation. This process requires a more skilled and experienced smith to be able to judge the temperatures in the blade and successfully harden it. The result is a beautiful, organic looking hamon line with a lot of interesting activity. (Ashi) The blade also features a convex grind that is thin behind the edge and a distal taper that runs the entire length of the spine.
The handle is made from African blackwood and has a symmetrical design that has been faceted on all sides as well as heirloom fit to an antiqued brass bolster and adorned with a domed brass pin. This design is very comfortable in hand and adds a degree of elegance and to an already one of a kind knife.
